Surrey Association for Visual Impairment. Making a visible difference in Surrey.
Firstly, you need to understand what we are and what we do, so I would invite you to go to our page on About SAVI, then you can find out what our charity does and how we got where we are today. If you like us and would be interested in working for us, you have two possibilities. You may be interested in Volunteering and be an unpaid but very valuable member of our staff. If you look at Volunteer Support page, you will see all that is available there and how to apply.
If you would like to join our staff in paid job, please read on to see what vacancies we have on offer at this time.
Would you like to support a group of blind and partially sighted people in your locality? Do you enjoy working with people and are good at organising? Could you facilitate a group of people being taught a variety of communication skills?
The role of Facilitator includes preparing the venue, providing sighted assistance, working with volunteers and linking with SAVI, but mainly ensuring that members can practice their skills in an enabling and supportive environment. Training will be provided.
The Communicator Guide is a unique service that enables the service users to live independent lives and helps eliminate isolation, depression and disorientation. This is run over 3 days and covers all aspects of deafblind awareness. There is a written and practical exam on the 3rd day, which applicants must pass to allow them to commence working as a Communicator Guide.
