Get involved at school

Raising money at school offers children a positive opportunity for involvement in helping others.

Louis Braille Bicentenary

Louis BrailleIn 2009 we are celebrating the bicentenary of Louis Braille.  We would be delighted to provide you with a history page on Louis Braille along with some exciting activities.  Would you like us to come along to your school and talk about the services that SAVI provides?   We can offer the children insight into what it might be like to have a visual impairment, which in turn will help them to develop an awareness of how people are affected by disability.

As well as all the above we will include our schools fundraising pack which has lots of ideas for raising funds and we ask that you consider committing to taking part in a fundraiser or better still making SAVI your charity of the year.  In the latter case we would like to familiarise the children with a case study so that they can see how their contributions are helping.  It could be a child with visual impairment and we could keep the pupils abreast with his/her progress.

Raise your Glasses!

Fetcham Infant SchoolWhy not toast Louis Braille on his 200th birthday in the style of your choice?

BBQ, breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, picnic, morning or afternoon break, to name but a few.

Louis Braille was a Frenchman so you could have a French themed event, perhaps a soirée. You could even dress up in the style of the days of Louis Braille (1809-1852).  Maybe cook a meal from the 1800’s.

To raise funds you could hold a tombola, sell cakes, have games or charge an admission fee. Whatever you decide to do, don't forget to take lots of photos and send them in via text or email.

Raise your glasses, raise awareness, raise funds and most of all have fun and raise some laughs!

Get Your Kit On!

England TeddyThis is a simple fundraising event where children are invited to come along to school in the favourite team colours.  This could be a local, national or international football, rugby, netball or Olympic team to name but a few.  The children might even like to fly the flag for their very own school team.  As an alternative they may prefer to bring a teddy bear mascot dressed in their chosen team colours.  This could be an ideal event for the last day of term when the children are winding down for the school holiday.

To get involved in this event please register by calling the fundraising office on x 307 or by emailing fundraising@sa-vi.org.uk. Once you have registered we will send you posters to advertise your event, some balloons and methods of payment. After the event we will send you a certificate to display in your school showing how much the children have raised for SAVI.

Other Ideas for Schools

Regular exercise is important for health and SAVI will be happy to help organise events such as an aerobics workout or sponsored swim.

Link an event with healthy eating - have a teddy bear's picnic or a cookery competition.

Involve students in a competition to come up with their own ideas to raise money for SAVI. This exercise encourages students to develop their inventive flair, entrepreneurial sprit and leadership skills.
